Principal's Corner

Dear Natomas Middle School Families,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year. My name is Patrick Birdsong, and I am very proud to be serving as the Principal of Natomas Middle, a school that is excelling in so many ways. I believe that we will continue to be an excellent school, one that exemplifies excellence with Common Core Standards and the Natomas Unified School District Vision—“All NUSD students graduate as college and career-ready, productive, responsible, and engaged global citizens.”

I look forward to engaging with the teachers and students in The International Baccalaureate (IB) program in middle school.  IB plays a pivotal role in shaping well-rounded, global citizens in the middle school years.  Students will gain critical thinking and inquiry skills along with a global perspective.  NMS's focus on academic rigor and preparation will provide a challenging curriculum that prepares your student for the demands of high school and beyond.  We will strive to ensure our middle school is instrumental in developing not only academically competent students but also compassionate and engaged global citizens.

Here is a little information about me:
I bring over 25 years of educational experience and practice serving K-6 and K-8 schools in Sacramento and the Bay Area to Natomas Middle. Before Natomas Middle, I served as Principal at Witter Ranch, Pioneer Elementary, Michael J. Castori, and Golden Valley Charter.

I attended California State University, Sacramento, and graduated with a degree in Social Science. I received my teaching credential in Urban Education at San Francisco State University and my Administrative Credential in Urban School Leadership from CSU Sacramento. My wife and I raised our two children, a girl and a boy, in the Curtis Park neighborhood of Sacramento. Our daughter will be starting her fourth year of college this fall, and our son will start his third year.

Again, welcome to the 2024-2025 school year. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please feel free to stop by the front office or contact me at (916) 567-5540. I look forward to seeing you in August.

Sincerely,

Mr. Patrick Birdsong
